Advance Diploma Tracks

Overview

The Advanced Diploma Track is designed for motivated students who want to challenge themselves beyond the standard requirements.

  • Comprehensive academic challenge: Requires completion of 28 credits, including two years of world language, ensuring strong foundations across all subjects.

  • College-level readiness: Includes one college-level course in each core subject, preparing students for competitive universities and future careers.

  • Commitment to excellence: At least 25% of total credits (minimum 7.0 credits) must be earned within the program to guarantee academic consistency and rigor.

  • Who it’s for: Available through both Semester and Flex options, this track is ideal for students aiming to push their academic limits and stand out in college applications.

Eligibility

Open to all students enrolled in Open Learner’s Online High School, this diploma track provides a clear and supportive pathway toward graduation.

Students joining from non-American education systems may be required to submit their academic records for evaluation:

  • Grade 10 Admission:
    Students seeking admission into Grade 10 or higher must provide their previous school transcripts/mark sheets. If Grade 9 (or equivalent) was not completed under the U.S. education system, credentials must be evaluated by the International Education Research Foundation (IERF).
  • Credential Evaluation Requirement:
    The evaluation ensures that previous coursework aligns with U.S. standards. This evaluation report must be submitted to Brigham Young University (BYU) before students can progress to Grade 12 (High School Diploma).
  • IERF Details:
    IERF is an independent, non-profit organization that provides credential evaluations for international students. Applicants can begin their evaluation process through the official IERF website: https://www.ierf.org

This process ensures that all Open Learner students have a recognized and accredited pathway toward earning their U.S. High School Diploma, regardless of their prior educational background.

Credit Requirements

To earn the Standard Diploma, students must complete of 28 total credits. Students must complete a minimum of 3.5 credits (7 courses) every 6 months

  • Students must complete
    • at least two years of progressive world language credit
    • at least one college-level course in each core subject

Concurrent Enrollment Courses

Concurrent enrollment courses count for one BYU Independent Study high school credit and three BYU university credits. To participate in concurrent enrollment courses students must have completed at least 12 high school credits and have at least a 3.0 GPA. Students must also submit a Concurrent Enrollment Form for authorization prior to enrolling in the course.
